Creative Media Production & Technology

This course offers students a great introduction to the media industry and will give you the confidence you need to move into this exciting field of employment. It is a practical course and you will learn industry-standard techniques using professional film and editing equipment. You will learn industry standard software such as Adobe Premiere, InDesign and Illustrator, to enable you to develop skills with film editing, animation and print graphics. Photography and journalism skills will also be embedded through the course and you will have use of our state-of-the-art photography studio. The media landscape is always evolving so we offer a diverse range of experiences designed to make sure your skills are up-to-date and in demand. You will explore traditional media such as single and multi-camera techniques but also exciting digital developments such as viral marketing and online applications.

In your first year, you will build skills in areas such as:

• Filmmaking

• Editing

• Music Video

• Photography

• Radio

In Year 2 you will further develop your skills with more emphasis on you as the individual, developing your own ideas and career aspirations. You will get expert advice and guidance from your lecturers and visiting industry specialists. You will also create a showreel and portfolio of work as you move towards the completion of an exciting individual project of your own choosing.

Many of our students’ progress onto the Higher National Diploma Art & Design (Arts Practice) at Selby College. We also offer the BA Hons Top Up course to full degree through Hull university this is a level 6 qualification. Others who are more interested in moving further afield apply for university degree programmes elsewhere and we have had great success in helping students gain entry to a wide range of courses at prestigious universities.

Standard Level 3 vocational entry requirements apply. The minimum requirement is at least five GCSEs at Grade 4 OR at least 3 GCSE subjects at Grade 4 alongside alternative GCSE equivalent requirements. At least one of Maths or English Language must be Grade 4 and neither lower than Grade 3.

If the subject applied for has been taken previously, then at least a Grade 4 at GCSE or Merit at BTEC or OCR Level 2 is required.

Please note: If you have not achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE English and/or Maths you will be required to continue studying these alongside your college course.
