BTEC, Level 3

Art & Design

Our aim is to discover what really excites you about Art & Design. The course explores a huge range of visual experiences. We will discuss work from artists and to look at the subject in a highly personal way as you respond to different influences. We are looking for passionate, expressive and creative students, who are excited to discover their own independent creative flare.

If you are excited about Art & Design and considering a career in the creative industries, the UAL Applied General Extended Diploma in Art and Design could be just the course for you. Our aim is to help you discover what really excites you about Art & Design whilst equipping you with the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to progress into higher education or support progression into the creative industries.

The course is full time and you will experience a wide variety of art and design practices including photography, drawing and painting, illustration, 3D modelling, graphic design, film making, media production, fashion and textiles, print making, moving image and fine art. In year one, we focus keenly on the development of your ability to select work and present it really well. We also encourage you to be individual and highly experimental in your work. This leads to very exciting, lively studio sessions where we will see you push your practical work and develop your creative thinking skills.

The first year is about gaining confidence and a greater understanding of your ideas, skills and motivation so you will be ready to apply your expertise and focus your work on a chosen area of specialisation in year two.

In the second year we aim for students to demonstrate far more autonomy and independence as they respond to self-led projects. You will find it really motivating when you start to work on your own personal ideas. Throughout both years, you will look at the work of all kinds of other artists, designers and makers to support the development of your own work. You will be expected to complete independent study outside of studio hours to support your creative progression and this will usually involve a combination of practical work, research and the development of your ongoing sketchbooks.

We always try to build in lots of opportunities to visit galleries and to participate in an end of year exhibition where your work will be exhibited for guests to view.
