Course Overview

This creative and exciting pathway is aimed at broadening and expanding your art and design skills to a very high standard in areas such as drawing, design generation, painting, 3-dimensional design, printmaking, ceramics, surface design, graphic design, illustration, photography, fashion and textiles and digital applications. Working within a creative studio environment and IT suites, you will develop your knowledge, self-confidence, communication, time-management and presentation skills, resulting in a professional portfolio and body of work.

What You Will Study

In the first year you will gain confidence and a greater understanding of ideas, skills and motivation allowing you focus your work on your chosen specialism in year two.

In the second year you will demonstrate autonomy and independence responding to self-led projects.

Throughout the course you will look at the work of other artists, designers and makers to support the development of your own work. You will be expected to complete independent study outside of studio hours to support your creative progression and this will usually involve a combination of practical work, research and the development of your ongoing sketchbooks.

All students will have the opportunity to visit and explore local galleries and surrounding areas. Taught through a series of thought-provoking topics and themes, diverse assignments/live briefs and practical workshops, led by friendly, supportive and experienced staff.. As an Art & Design student at Selby College, you will have access to a professional photography studio, Apple Mac suites with the latest industry standard Adobe software, print making facilities, a photography darkroom and general studio spaces.
