Selby College at the Goole and Howdenshire Business Awards

February 2022: Goole and Howdenshire Business Excellence Award

At the Goole and Howdenshire Business Excellence Awards 2022, Selby College was awarded with the Covid-19 Award for its commitment to serving its students, staff and local community throughout the pandemic.

The College was recognised for the way in which its staff rose to the many challenges imposed by Covid-19, ensuring that its 1500+ students were able to continue their learning safely, effectively and remotely.

Staff also went the extra mile to create and donate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to those working on the frontline, including emergency services and local care homes.

February 2022: Selby College student named the Association of College's Young Student of the Year

Kizzy Wade, a Vocational student at Selby College, has been named as the Association of Colleges’ Young Student of the Year.

Nominated for her commitment to raising awareness on issues such as disability and mental health, Kizzy is a keen poet and spoken word activist who aims to address the topics important to her generation through her writing.

RoSPA President’s Award 2020

Selby College has been awarded the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) President’s Award for its outstanding health and safety performance. The acolade is presented to organisations who have received 10 Consecutive Gold Awards, highlighting the College’s commitment to ensuring a safe learning and working environment year on year.

The award scheme recognises the College’s overall health and safety performance, policies and procedures, including its health and safety management systems and leadership and workforce involvement.

2019: BTEC Silver Award

Selby College was awarded a Silver Award in the BTEC Awards category for ‘BTEC College of the Year 2019’ in recognition of its outstanding dedication and commitment in providing BTEC subjects.

The BTEC Awards recognise outstanding dedication to BTEC sectors and learning. The College currently offers BTEC courses in Business, Construction, Health & Social Care, Information Technology & Computing, Law, Public Services, Science, Sport and Travel & Tourism.

2009-2019: RoSPA Health and Safety Awards

Selby College has awarded ten consecutive Gold Awards by the Royal Society for Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Health and Safety Awards, for its health and safety practices.

The RoSPA Awards scheme, which is the longest-running industry awards scheme in the UK, receives entries from organisations around the world. The scheme recognises achievement in health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

2017: Ofsted 'Good College' Status

In December 2017, Ofsted graded the college as ‘Good’ across all seven areas; Effectiveness of leadership & management; Quality of teaching, learning and assessment; Personal development, behaviour & welfare; Outcomes for learners; 16-19 study programmes;Adult learning programmes and Apprenticeships.

We were the first college in Yorkshire and the Humber, and one of only a handful of colleges in England to achieve a full set of Outstanding grades, following our 2007 inspection by independent Government inspectors.

Quality in Careers Standard Award


2016: The Quality in Careers Standard Award

Our Student Services team was awarded the Humber Gold Standard for Impartial Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance.

The Quality in Careers Standard is the national quality award for careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) in schools, colleges and work-based learning. Selby College achieved the Quality in Careers Standard awarded by Humber LEP in December 2016. By achieving the externally assessed award parents and learners can be confident that the careers support provided by Selby College is of the highest quality and will help every learner to gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to take control of their futures.

Best company award 2013


2013: Best Companies Award

Selby College was recognised for the second year running as one of the United Kingdom’s Best Companies in the UK to work for in the annual Best Companies Awards.

The Best Companies Award is given to organisations, via a confidential survey, and asks how good the company is to work for. Key aspects of the survey included the college's leadership, management performance, team working and how fairly it treated employees.

Every organisation that enters Best Companies Accreditation is given a Best Companies Index (BCI) score. This score (on a scale of 1 to 1,000) is defined from employee's responses to the 54 questions with the Best Companies employee survey. Selby College first achieved the one star First Class organisation to work for status in the 2009 Awards.

Selby College was the first and only College in Yorkshire to achieve the award in 2009.

Matrix Standard award


2013: Matrix Quality Award

Since 2004: Matrix Quality Standard for information, advice and guidance (reaccredited 2013).

The matrix standard is the national quality standard for any organisation that delivers information, advice and/or guidance on learning and work.

Selby College provides information, advice and guidance to external customers including individuals and employers.
