If you're into sport, we have lots of opportunities here at Selby College...

Students have the opportunity to train and play Rugby League for the Selby College team in the Yorkshire 2 League, in partnership with Hull FC. All Selby College learners will have the opportunity to train with and play Rugby League in a 13-a-side competition. Plus opportunities for pan-disability learners with Hull FC Wheelchair Rugby League team in national league and Cup competitions.

Additionally…

  • Weekly training sessions and match day
  • Weekly Touch Rugby sessions and tournaments for men and women
  • Selby College Sports students have unique access to the Hull FC Training ground for 'masterclass' sessions from coaching, Sports Science (Strength & Conditioning) and physio staff
  • The opportunity to observe First Team training and Super-League matches at the KCOM Stadium
  • Work Placement opportunities to help students take the next step in their dream career

Football

The Selby College Football Development Centre (FDC) gives a platform to those players who have previously been involved with professional clubs, as well as those who have yet to be given the opportunity to showcase their sporting talents. With links to local professional and semi-professional clubs, students will have the opportunity to play at the highest level.

Training is incorporated into the study programme each week, with teams coached by Level 3 coaches. Additionally, Sports Science support is provided alongside the pitch-based sessions. This includes technical, tactical and strength and conditioning coaching for all players. Massage and rehabilitation is also available to those involved in the FDC.

The Men’s First Football Team and former league champions play in the AoC Yorkshire & Humber Men’s League and have represented the area at the National Championships. The Second Team were Runners-Up in their Regional AoC League in 2019. The Women’s Team have played weekly fixtures in the ECFA Yorkshire and Humber League (West League).

Other Sports

Other teams and clubs are available including Basketball, Dodgeball, Volleyball, Table Tennis and Netball. These are available during lunch and some compete in AoC League matches every Wednesday afternoon. You don’t need to be on a Sport course to take part, so come and join in!
