Staff Benefits

At Selby College, we offer a range of staff benefits which include:

Our salaries are competitive and we also run an Occupational Pension Scheme for teachers and support staff and both are contributory.

We have a generous leave entitlement, with 37 days per year for teaching staff and 25 days for support staff, plus public holidays (both pro-rata). The Annual Leave year runs from 1st September until 31st August of the following year.

Fractional staff receive a pro-rata entitlement of Annual Leave. Staff can also apply to take up to 5 days' additional and unpaid leave in the leave year.

At Selby College, we believe in making a difference to the lives of the people we serve, treating all people with dignity and respect and recognising the value of each individual. We aim to provide an environment that is both supportive and engaging which delivers tools and strategies that can improve wellbeing.

We demonstrate our commitment to this through our pledge to the Association of Colleges Mental Health and Wellbeing Charter and via our Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy.

When we need that little bit of extra support, employees are able to access our confidential counselling service. We have a team of trained Counsellors who are available to listen and try to help you clarify difficulties, explore choices or provide support. This includes the Wellbeing in Mind Service, a specialist mental health and emotional wellbeing service provided by Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust.

To support physical health, the College has an onsite Gym and has partnered with the local leisure centre to offer a discounted membership. Free employee fitness clubs are also regularly held and employees are able to take part in weekly Yoga sessions at a small cost, delivered by an external yoga instructor.

Employees of Selby College are also able to benefit from a corporate monthly discount for Selby Leisure Centre, in Selby, which includes unlimited use, any day and time of the week, of their gym, swimming classes, fitness classes, sauna and steam room.

Employees and students have access to a wide range of mental health and wellbeing resources, which are regularly updated and are shared weekly as part of the College’s ‘Wellbeing Wednesday’ initiative.

As part of this, the College hosts a range of wellbeing activities throughout the year including employee darts competitions, sports days and other wellbeing activities.

Employees are able to apply for up to £300 each year to spend on Selby College courses for additional training and development.

We give employees the option to choose from a broad range of courses offered at the College, which they are able to undertake in their own time and subject to their line manager's agreement.

The scheme is open to all staff who have successfully completed their probationary period. This benefit is in addition to any work-related training that you or your manager agree you need.

We organise employee social events such as end of year celebrations and to mark significant events. Staff and students also come together to plan and take part in fundraising activities.

Recognition is also important to us and that is why we like to reward staff for their efforts via Staff Awards.

Those who are identified as 'users' under the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations are encouraged to have their eyesight regularly tested. We finance the eyesight test and the provision of spectacles for DSE use where required.
