At Selby College, we’re committed to protecting young people and vulnerable adults from harm.

As a Safe Organisation, we ensure that our governing body, all our employees, agency staff and volunteers are aware of their responsibilities to safeguarding young people and vulnerable adults.

How we do this:

  • We have clear policies and procedures in place Safeguarding Policy and Procedures (links)
  • We ensure all of our staff working for, or on behalf of the College, are suitable to work with young people carrying out all the relevant checks.
  • We have a designated Safeguarding Lead at senior level and a member of staff who can be accessed to discuss cases at an operational level, trained to provide access to specialist advice on child protection and the protection of vulnerable adults.
  • We ensure all staff have initial and regularly updated Safeguarding training. Staff also have access to information and guidance on procedures for child protection and protection of vulnerable adults.
  • We promote student activities and deliver sessions with safeguarding and wellbeing themes.
  • We have a clear and accessible complaints procedure where concerns can be raised and take all concerns seriously. We offer support via Youth Workers and Counsellors or provide advice and referral to specialist agencies, or Social Care Direct where appropriate.
  • We are committed to achieving equality for all students, staff, and other College users, and to ensure that all students, whatever their background, have the opportunity to benefit from excellent and inspirational educational opportunities.
  • We aim to be fully inclusive, working to eliminate discrimination, promoting equality, and embracing diversity in all that we do. We celebrate the rich variety of people who make up our communities, from different cultures and different ethnic backgrounds. Some may have a disability; others may follow different religions. We may differ in our sexual orientation, languages or belief systems but we are united by an ambition to succeed and fulfil our potential.
  • We have strategies and actions in place that outline our commitment and targets on how we aim to drive equality and diversity forward, ensuring that our learners and employees have the opportunity to benefit from equal opportunities.
