Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools

This qualification aims to provide learners with the knowledge and skills required to support teaching and learning in primary, secondary or special schools.

Completion of this course will lead to the learner achieving a Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning - accredited by NCFE.

Learners must be working, volunteering or on a practical placement in a school environment to complete this course.

The qualification covers a wide range of topics including:

  • Children and Young People's Development
  • Supporting those with disabilities or special educational needs
  • Communication and professional relationships

Upon successful completion of this qualification, learners can progress on to Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualifications.

The following job roles can be applied for on completion:

  • Teaching Assistant
  • Learning Support Assistant
  • Special Educational Needs Assistant
  • Although there are not any formal entry qualifications, learners must be at least 16 years of age and must be either working, volunteering or on a practical placement.
  • ID to be provided prior to course.

Learners will be assessed by their tutor or assessor using a range of methods which could include a direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, and written assessments.
