Engineering Operations (Skills)

This one-year course is designed to allow you to gain a good grounding and develop skills within the Engineering sector.

The course is particularly suitable for you if:

• You wish to become an Engineer.

• You are thinking about Engineering as a career but would like some experience of the job role first, or wish to learn new skills.

• You are looking to progress to an Engineering Apprenticeship.

Unit 001 Complying with Statutory Regulations and Organisational Safety Requirements

Unit 002 Working Efficiently and Effectively in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering

Unit 003 Using and Communicating Technical Information

Unit 044 General Welding Applications*

Unit 048 General Machining, Fitting and Assembly Applications

Unit 050 General Electrical and Electronic Engineering Applications

On successful completion many students choose to enrol on a Full-Time Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering Technologies (Electrical or Mechanical pathway), or you may decide to do an Apprenticeship to earn while you learn or find work, or to enter employment.

Standard Level 2 entry requirements apply – 4 GCSE passes at Grade 3, to include English, Maths and Science. At least 2 GCSE subjects at Grade 3 are required alongside alternative GCSE qualifications. Please note: If you have not achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE English and/or Maths you will be required to continue studying these alongside your college course.

Assessment: 90% coursework, 10% exam

The qualification is assessed by:

  • Portfolio of assessment
  • Verbal/written questioning
  • Witness testimony
  • Assessor observations
