Preparation for Public Services

The UK’s Public Services sector is one of the largest employers in the country. This qualification provides an opportunity to gain an insight into this area of employment. Learners will be prepared as potential recruits for a variety of uniformed services. The course is suitable for anyone who wants to investigate employment opportunities in the Police, Fire Service, Army, Royal Navy, RAF and Prison Service.

You will study a variety of units which may include:

  • Public Service Skills and Support for the Community
  • Employment in Uniformed Public Services
  • Activities & Teamwork for the Public Services
  • Health & Fitness for Entry into the Uniformed Public Services
  • Expedition and Land Navigation Skills
  • Attending Emergency Incidents in the Public Services

You will be expected to attend a number of external activities and trips as part of the course.

On successful completion, you may be able to progress to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Uniformed Protective Services or seek employment within the Public Services Sector.

Standard Level 2 entry requirements apply - the minimum requirement is at least four GCSEs at Grade 3, one of which will be in English or Maths. Neither English nor Maths will be below Grade 2. At least two GCSE subjects at Grade 3 are required alongside GCSE equivalent qualifications.

Please note: If you have not achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE English and/or Maths you will be required to continue studying these alongside your college course.
