Emergency First Aid

This course is designed for anyone who has or seeks to have a responsibility for First Aid in the workplace and is particularly suitable for people working in a low risk environment (e.g. retail outlets). It is a requirement under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 that your workplace must provide adequate and appropriate first aid provisions, facilities and people to enable employees to receive immediate help should they become ill or injured at work. Anyone wishing to undertake this course must be in general good health and physically fit.

Course Content:

  • Understanding the role of a First Aider
  • Assessing a situation and circumstances
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • First aid for minor injuries
  • Choking, bleeding and shock
  • Unconsciousness
  • Simple record keeping

Learners may wish to increase competence in work be completing the Level 3 First Aid at Work Qualification, in 3 years they will need to complete another first aid if they wish to keep a valid certificate (this could be a refresher qualification). This qualification means that the learner can begin their responsibility of providing first aid in a range of emergency first aid situations at work.

Although there are no formal entry requirements for this course, you must be aged 16 or above to attend.

All attendees are required to provide photographic identification, failure to do so prior to the start of the course will result in you not being able to sit the course.

Candidates attend a 1 day training programme which is held regularly throughout the year at Selby College or for a minimum of 6 people can be delivered at your premises. Each candidate will be assessed by the tutor throughout the course and will receive a certificate, which is valid for 3 years. Assessment includes: Integrated training and assessment (ITA), case studies, oral questioning, written question and answer test/exam, group discussion and practical demonstration.
