Access to Higher Education Diploma, Level 3

Criminal Justice

This criminology course prepares you for entry into higher education to study for a range of professions including the police, youth offending services, prison service, probationary service, victim and offender support services.

Please note: This course will not run until September 2023.

Our experienced teaching staff are passionate about their areas of expertise and are committed to helping you to attain your learning goals and meet your personal aims. You will be supported through the UCAS application process and overall be prepared for study at higher education.

You’ll gain theoretical knowledge and learn to understand crime in the context of its culture, as well as the criminal justice system. You’ll get a foundation in the psychology of crime, and enhance your studies by exploring the theories of offending behaviour and responses to crime.

With further education and training, successful completion of this Access to Higher Education programme can open up routes to careers in:

• Justice Services – Youth Justice/Probation Officer

• Police Officer/Police Community Support Officer (PCSO)

• Criminal Intelligence Analyst/Major Crime Team Investigator

• Scenes of Crime Officer/Crime Analyst

• Detention Officer

• Fingerprint Officer

• Prosecution File Preparation Officer

• Prison Officer/Probation Services Officer

• Security Service Personnel

• HM Revenue and Customs

  • You must be at least 19 years old
  • GCSE English at Grade C/4 or above
  • Two satisfactory references

Most universities expect students to have grade C/4 in GCSE Mathematics and Science when they apply for their Higher Education course and many are no longer accepting other Level 2 equivalents. You are advised to check the requirements with your chosen higher education institution. It may be possible to study for these qualifications whilst undertaking the Access programme at Selby College
