Business Studies

This course is designed to give you a critical understanding of organisations, their markets and their external environment. It provides a valuable insight into all financial aspects of commercial and non-commercial organisations. If you are an aspiring business owner or are looking to study Business at university, then this is the course for you.

This course will provide you with a sound knowledge and theoretical understanding of business behaviour, as well as equipping you with decision-making techniques and encouraging you to think critically about business activity.

Year 1 involves an introduction to key business areas: Marketing, Operations, Finance and Human Resource Management. This includes a special focus on decision-making – particularly how decisions made in one area can affect the rest of the business.

Year 2 looks at the bigger picture including: strategic issues, change management and the external environment.

Assessment consists of three exams. They feature a range of question styles including multiple choice, short answer questions, essay questions, data response questions and case studies.

Many of our students progress onto the Higher National Certificate in Business at Selby College or apply for Business-related degree courses at university.
