Bricklayers work on both new build and renovation schemes, on projects ranging from house extensions to city centre commercial development. This course aims to provide a knowledge of bricklaying and to develop and practise the skills for employment and a career in this craft area.

A bricklaying labourer could earn up to £15000 per year and a qualified bricklayer can earn over £30000. Qualified experienced bricklayers also have the potential to set up their own company.

Bricklaying study programmes start with a level 1 certificate/diploma or level 2 extended certificate/diploma. Learners progress from this to level 2 or level 3 study either as a full-time learner or as part time as an apprentice.

All study programmes cover health, safety, and principles of construction relevant to the trade and Sustainability. They also aim to develop practical skills for this craft.

At level 3, in addition to the bricklaying programme, students will develop an awareness around self-employment and can study an awareness programme on Building Information Modelling

This study programme is supported with construction sector engagement; students will benefit from guest speakers; critical friends from industry visiting the workshops; visits to local construction sites being examples offered to all bricklaying students. Working with construction companies the college also offers a work placement opportunity.
