Apprenticeship FAQS

Q: Are there any entry requirements for an Apprenticeship?

A: There are no formal entry requirements for an apprenticeship (unless an employer stipulates any themselves) however all potential apprentices will undertake a basic Maths and English assessment prior to enrolment.

Q: What is the Apprenticeship wage?

A: The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for apprentices aged 16-18, and those aged over 19 who are in the first year of their apprenticeship, can be found here National Minimum Wage.

The NMW applies to time working and time spent training as this is also part of the apprenticeship. Some employers will pay more, depending on age, experience and qualifications. You will need to make sure you are happy with your salary before starting your apprenticeship.

Q: How do I apply for an Apprenticeship?

A: You can apply direct via the find an apprenticeship website, through our website or by contacting the team on apprenticeships@heartofyorkshire.ac.uk or 01924 789469.

Q: Will I get a qualification at the end of it?

A: Some of the Apprenticeship standards include a mandatory qualification however all of our apprentices will receive a certificate of completion after sitting their end point assessment.

Q: Do I need to attend college?

A: Some of the Apprenticeships mean attending college for day/block release and others are delivered fully work-based. The team can advise further on this.

Q: Do I need to find my own employer or will college?

A: The team can offer support and guidance with searching for employers and applying for apprenticeships, however it would be advantageous to find your own employer where possible.
