Course Overview
This course can either be studied at Wakefield College or Castleford College.
This qualification aims to assess and develop the knowledge and skills of people working in a variety of healthcare settings as healthcare assistants working within different roles:
- Adult Nursing
- Maternity Support
- Theatre Support
- Children and Young People in Healthcare setting
- Mental Health
- Allied Health Profession Therapy Support
People wishing to gain this Level 3 qualification should be working with a minimum level of supervision and already possess good technical skills and knowledge.
You will be allocated a workplace assessor who will develop an individual learning plan and guide you to develop a portfolio of evidence to meet the learning outcomes.
What You Will Study
The apprentice must meet the 15 standards as set out in the Care Certificate.
To gain the Level 3 Diploma, you must achieve 83 credits.
43 credits from the following mandatory units: -
- Safeguarding and protection in care settings
- Cleaning, Decontamination and waste management
- Contribute to monitoring the health of individuals affected by health conditions
- Maintaining quality standards in health sector
- Study skills for senior healthcare support workers
- Promote personal development in care settings
- Promote health, safety and wellbeing
- Effective communication in care settings
- Promote effective handling of information in care settings
- Duty of care in care settings
- Promote equality and inclusion in care settings
- Person-centred practice, choice and independence
- Understand mental ill health
- Undertake physiological measurements
- Communicate with individuals about promoting their health and wellbeing
- Service improvement within the health sector
- Responsibilities of a senior healthcare support worker
- Provide support to manage pain and discomfort
- Maintain infection prevention and control in care settings
In addition to the core units, you will choose optional units that suit your current work role to achieve a further 20 credits, these will be discussed and planned with your Assessor.
