Course Overview
Functional Skills Level 2 is recognised and an alternative to GCSE. This course has been designed to learn and develop your essential skills in English. Through studying this course you will develop your reading, writing skills as well as your communication skills through speaking and listening.What You Will Study
Reading – This module looks at reading for information, including looking at biased pieces of work and will help you to work out how much the opinions of certain authors can be trusted. It also looks at the different types of layout features and how these can impact the reader.
Writing – This module looks at the best way to write certain pieces. This may include letters, newspaper articles, emails and blogs amongst others. This area will also test your spelling, punctuation and grammar skills.
Speaking, Listening and Communication – The speaking, listening and communication (SLC) element of English functional skills is one of the most useful and fun areas to strengthen. This module helps you prepare for the SLC assessment by showing you examples of the best ways to tackle everyday situations at home and in the workplace. These will help build your confidence and effectiveness in these scenarios.
