Selby College Engineers breeze into bronze position at latest race

Our Electric Car Engineering student team got back in the driving seat last week when they headed to the next Greenpower Education Trust qualifier at Blyton Park.

After an early start for everyone to get to the race track near Gainsborough in time for the day’s briefing and practice races, later that day staff and students were delighted to hear the news from Engineering Subject Area Manager Graeme Woodhall that Selby College had come in 3rd place in the F24+ Round 10 Heat. Well done to the students and fellow Lecturer Mick Wilson for their dedication in the project.

After the races, all the teams involved attended a prize-giving ceremony, where the four Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Engineering students, Dan Callon, Sam Bygrave, Liam Dunn and Lauren Askin were presented with a very impressive trophy and medal!

The project which has been sponsored by Drax, aims to inspire young people to excel in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects, as well as encouraging more girls to head into a previously very male dominated industry.
