Selby College Art & Design students host first virtual exhibition

The Art & Design Department at Selby College is set to host its first ever online exhibition next week, showcasing a range of graphic communications, fine art and photography.

The virtual exhibition will demonstrate the work of Year 2 Higher National Diploma (HND) Art & Design students and will explore a range of current and interesting subjects and concepts. This will include work such as illustration, 3D architectural designs, painting, drawing and new media works.

Attendees will be able to use Virtual Reality (VR) glasses to ‘walk’ around the exhibition or simply take a look through a website.

The online exhibition will replace the College’s annual Art & Design Show and will allow the students to showcase their final pieces before the end of the academic year.

“Whilst it is a shame that we aren’t able to host our usual end of year exhibition, it’s great to see all of the staff and students come together to host our very first virtual exhibition,” said Elaine Whitehead, Art & Design Lecturer at Selby College. “I’m extremely proud of the Year 2 HND students and what they have achieved with their work during such a challenging time. I look forward to seeing this work come to life as part of the online exhibition.”

The HND Art & Design virtual exhibition will be live from Monday June 29th and will feature pieces which have been completed at home during the lockdown period.

“I hope people are able to join us in the virtual exhibition space and are able to enjoy the fantastic work of our emerging student artists and designers. We would love to hear about your experience of the exhibition and any feedback is most welcome,” added Elaine.

The HND in Art & Design at Selby College is a two-year, degree-level programme providing students with a specialist vocational grounding in art and design. The programme is designed to provide students with a higher level of contextual awareness of art and design practices, preparing them for a successful career within the creative arts industry.
