Selby A Level students celebrate outstanding results

A Level students from Selby College are celebrating after the class of 2023 delivered another strong set of results, with an overall pass rate of 99.4% with 44% of learners achieving high grades (A*/A/B).

This year saw 9 subjects achieve a 100% pass rate including History, Geography, English Language, Chemistry and Business.

Amongst this year’s top achievers, Alexus Lambert-Dowell secured a place at The University of Cambridge to study Engineering after gaining four A*s in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Geography. Commenting on the support he received at Selby College, Alexus said: I had fantastic tutors who helped me get the offer from Cambridge, including one who set up practice interviews for me. They also really helped me prepare for the exams.

Juliet Urquhart dreams of a career working in data or programming after securing a place at the University of York to study Computer Science. She achieved A (Maths), C (Further Maths), B (Computer Science) and B (Geography). Juliet said: “I really enjoyed the structure of the learning at Selby College – it was more independent than high school and I really liked the campus.” Juliet also praised how the staff have prepared her for her degree.

Students have secured places at a number of Russell Group universities including the University of York, the University of Leeds, the University of Liverpool, the University of Manchester and the University of Newcastle among others.

Sam Wright, Chief Executive and Principal at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group, expressed her pride in the achievements of the students and the College: "These outstanding A Level results are a reflection of the dedication of our students and the commitment of our staff. At Selby College, we strive to provide an enriching educational environment that empowers our students to excel academically and personally. These results are a testament to their hard work and determination."

The commitment of the teaching staff at Selby College has been integral to the success of the students. Karen Ralphs, Head of A Levels at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group, said: "I am immensely proud of our students for their exceptional achievements. The collaboration between our passionate staff and determined students has truly paid off. These results not only demonstrate academic excellence but also the growth and development of these young individuals as they step confidently into the next chapter of their lives."

Selby College is part of the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group. The Group’s first cohort of T Level students has delivered an amazing 100% pass rate at the end of their programmes, with 66% gaining distinctions stars or distinctions. New T Levels will be commencing at Selby College from September 2023.
