Oxford University success for Selby College student Emily

Selby College student Emily Morbey, 17, has been offered a place to study Human Sciences at Oxford University’s Keble College. The A Level student secured a place at the University’s prestigious Summer School last year, which confirmed her dream to study there.

Emily, who is currently studying for A Levels in Mathematics, Biology and English Language, is particularly interested in the Genetics and Evolution elements of the course that Oxford offers, following the taster she had of their degree programme last summer.

Selby College runs a successful Horizon Group programme designed to help high-achieving students secure a place at Oxford, Cambridge or other Russell Group universities with additional support and links to some of the UK’s best universities, including summer schools, work experience and mentoring to support UCAS statements.

After an early application to UCAS, Emily had an admissions examination back in October before being shortlisted for interview in December. The process, which lasted four days and involved two interviews across two days, morning and afternoon at two different colleges was intense but Emily was keen to impress as the course combination was her top choice and not an option anywhere else!

Speaking of the offer she has received, Emily said: “This is an amazing opportunity to study a course that really interests me - in a place that will really push me to succeed.”

The former Holy Family School student applied through the mentoring scheme Oxbridge Applications where she was given the experience and advice of a former Oxford student throughout the application process.

Emily, who is a keen singer and guitarist is also setting her sights on joining Keble College Choir if she is successful on A Level Results day. Good luck Emily!
