High-flying Travel & Tourism students spend the day with British Airways

Our Level 3 Travel & Tourism students recently visited Heathrow Airport to participate in training hosted by British Airways. The trip supported the group’s Level 2 Air Cabin Crew qualification that they complete in their first year and activities included airplane evacuation, putting out a fire, safety talks and customer service tasks.

The practical side of the qualification that is delivered as part of the day at Heathrow gave the group the chance to showcase their own service skills, whilst also learning more about the role of Air Cabin Crew, which many of this year’s cohort hope to progress onto after completing their studies.

The BTEC National Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism offered at Selby College is a two-year full-time programme. Units include Working as a Holiday Representative, Working as an Entertainment Representative, Tour Operators, Events, Visitor Attractions and Customer Services. There are also several work experience opportunities as part of this course which in the past have included Leeds Marriott Hotel, Carlton Towers, Premier Inn, Jet2 and TUI.

The department works very closely with a range of employers and destinations to help the students gain industry insight and experience. Previous study visits have included Flamingo Land, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Spain, Morocco and Italy.
