Former student interviews Olympic Boxer on BBC Sport

Thursday 5 September 2019

It’s great to see our former students on the way to achieving their dream careers!

Former A Level student Hannah Lucas progressed to the University of Sheffield last September to study BA Journalism Studies.

Hannah, who studied History, English Language and Art & Design at Selby College dreams of being a Sports Broadcaster after she graduates. After applying to be a BBC Kick Off Trainee Sports Reporter she was delighted to be interviewed and chosen to get a five-week placement as a reporter for BBC Humberside.

The former Howden School student has interviewed football players, read the 16:25 Sports Bulletin live on the radio and created a project on a sports story in the local area. A passionate boxer from the age of 12, she decided to do her feature on local Hull Olympic Champion Luke Campbell’s world title fight against Vasiliy Lomachenko. She was granted exclusive access to attend Luke’s training camp in London to spend time with him and interview him one-on-one.

Hannah’s final project aired on BBC Humberside on Saturday 31st August before the fight. She will head to Media City in Salford for her BBC Showcase later this month, before she returns to university for her final two years.

Hannah said of her time at Selby College: "The staff here are dedicated to helping you achieve the best you can and genuinely care about their students' ambitions."

She added: "I found my A Level courses to be fun as well as very challenging, which made me want to put in the extra work needed to do well. I really enjoyed my time studying here. Selby College gets people to the places they want to be. I could not recommend the College and the course I studied enough!"
