Tuesday 29 August 2023

Results of the latest National Student Survey 2023 (NSS), commissioned by the Office for Students (OfS), have revealed that the University Centre at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group has placed significantly higher than national average for student experience.

Over 92% of students stated they feel positive about the teaching and support they receive at the University Centre as part of the survey, 8% higher than the sector average.

The University Centre also placed significantly higher than the national average in terms of learning opportunities, assessment, academic support, student voice and course organisation.

Students confirmed that teaching was engaging and intellectuality stimulating, which challenged them to develop their knowledge and skills for the future and reach their full potential.

Our mission is to deliver a higher education offer which supports and prepares our students into securing prosperous careers across a wide range of sectors, so it’s incredibly rewarding to receive such positive feedback from our students. What is evident throughout their feedback is that our tutors and support staff do a fantastic job in helping them both academically and personally, and I can’t thank colleagues enough for this. When learners study with us at the University Centre, we treat everyone as an individual and we truly value their feedback and the contribution they make to their course and the wider Group.

When asked about freedom of expression, more than 94% of students considered their opinions were valued and that their feedback regarding their course was acted upon.

Overall, 87% of the Group’s students responded to the survey, a 5% increase over last year and 16% above the national average.

The survey received over 339,000 responses across the UK this year, asking students questions about a range of factors related to their academic experience.

Across its three campuses in Castleford, Selby and Wakefield, the University Centre offers a range of degree-level programmes including Foundation Degrees, Full Degrees, Higher National Certificates and Diplomas, Top-Up Degrees and Teacher Training, validated by some of the region’s most well-established universities.

They cover a wide range of subject areas including Animal Management, Art & Design, Business, Construction, Childhood Studies, Digital Technologies, Education, Engineering, Health & Wellbeing, Music, Performing Arts, Public Services, Social Science, Sport and more.

The Group also provides a variety of Access to Higher Education courses which are designed to provide learners with the relevant knowledge and study skills they require if they’ve been out of education for some time and hope to successfully complete a degree course.
