Mental Health Awareness Week 2022

Mental Health Awareness Week 2022 is here!

We will be carrying out a number of activities across campus this week for students and staff to mark Mental Health Awareness Week. The activities will relate to this year’s theme of loneliness and ways as to how we can help to reduce loneliness in society.

Join in with the fun and follow our live blog below for updates throughout the week.

For students:

Monday 9th May:

  • Family Fortunes game All day - located in the Additional Learning Support Hub.
  • Gardening in the College’s garden, between 1-4pm.

Tuesday 10th May:

  • Marathon in Mind - get on your bike! Located in Reception and hosted by Level 2 Sports Students, between 1-3pm.

Wednesday 11th May:

  • Marathon in Mind - Can you spare a mile? Located in Reception and on the mound by Level 2 Sport students, between 9:30-11am.
  • Volleyball and table tennis - located on the mound and outside hosted by Level 3 sports students, between 11am-12pm.

Friday 13th May:

Wear your favourite colour day. This is to open conversations about things we have in common.

For staff:

Photo competition - Following the success of last year’s competition during Mental Health Awareness Week, we are bringing it back for another year!

We are encouraging staff to take photographs of things in pairs to combat the theme of loneliness. This could be humans, animals, flowers, weather or anything you can think of! The photographs will go to an all staff vote on Thursday 12th May, with the winner announced on Friday 13th, with a prize for the winner. One entry per person.

Darts competition – We are holding a staff pairs darts knockout, with the final taking place on Thursday 12th May.

This is an event for staff to join in and help challenge stigma around loneliness, whilst having some fun!

Friday 13th May - Staff photography competition

Staff were also encouraged to submit a photograph of things in pairs or a group as part of a photography competition, which was won by Executive Assistant Susan Credland who captured a group of adult and baby Geese.

Friday 13th May - Staff and students wear their favourite colours

Staff and students wore their favourite colours to the College, which aimed to open up conversations about things that staff and students have in common.

Thursday 12th May - Dart champions named

After fierce knockout rounds, Mathematics and Science tutors Ian King and Peter Packer took home the winning trophy for the staff darts competition.

Staff also enjoyed homemade pie and peas by Hospitality and Catering Assessor Liz Brighton as part of the finals night.

Wednesday 11th May - Marathon in Mind

With the help of staff and students at the College, Level 2 and Level 3 Sports students rowed, cycled and ran collectively achieve 139 miles - which is the equivalent to over five marathons.

What an amazing effort by all those involved!
