Site Carpentry

Site carpentry focuses on the installation of the joinery components, and on the setting out and fabrication of timber elements used in construction. This will include learning about; hanging doors, fixing architrave and skirting, constructing kitchen and bathroom units and setting out and fixing roofs.

The College has close links to construction companies and has a work placement programme and construction projects where students get the opportunity to experience commercial construction work conditions.

You will study a variety of units including:

  • Health and Safety
  • Understanding Information, Quantities and Communication
  • Understanding Construction Technology
  • Second Fix Operations
  • Structural Carcassing Operations
  • Maintenance to Non-Structural Carpentry Work
  • Prepare and Use Portable Power Tools

On successful completion, you may progress to:

  • Level 3 Site Carpentry
  • BTEC Level 3 National Subsidiary Diploma in Construction and Built Environment
  • Advanced Carpentry and Joinery, Level 3 (Apprenticeship)

Standard Level 2 entry requirements apply – Four GCSE passes at Grade 3, one of which will be in English or Maths. Neither English nor Maths will be below Grade 2. At least two GCSE subjects at Grade 3 are required alongside alternative GCSE equivalent qualifications. Alternatively, you will have a Level 1 Diploma in Basic Construction Skills.

Please note:
If you have not achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE English and/or Maths you will be required to continue studying these alongside your college course.

60% Practical, 40% Coursework and Exam.
