This is an ideal course for those who are looking to learn on a full-time basis and have identified that they want to enter the construction industry and have a career as a site carpenter

Carpenters work on both new build and renovation schemes, on projects ranging from house extensions to city centre commercial development. A carpenter works to build stud partitions, roof trusses; fits doors and windows; fits floorboards and stairs:

This course aims to provide a basic knowledge of site carpentry and to develop and practise the skills for employment and a career in this craft area.

Site Carpentry study programmes start with a level 1 certificate/level 1 diploma or level 2 diploma. Learners progress from this to level 2 or 3 either as a full-time learner or as part time as an apprentice.

A qualified site carpenter could earn from £18000 per year and experience has the potential to earn over £35000.

The College has close links to construction companies and has a work placement programme and construction projects where students get the opportunity to experience commercial construction work conditions.

On a site carpentry study programme, you will learn through classroom teaching and activity incorporating IT access. The college has designated workshops and through practical activity, you will develop your carpentry skills.

This learning is supplemented with engagement with industry specialists. The extent of this depends on the level of the study programme and varies from guest speakers and site visits to carrying out practical activity in a live environment supervised and assessed in this environment

Those successfully completing their first year of study typically progress to the next level. A number of our students gain employment and progress onto the Apprenticeship Standard Level 2.

Three at GCSE grades 9-2, to include Maths and English.

Theory subjects are assessed through examination. Practical assessment is continuous throughout the year with a synoptic assessment in the summer term.
