Developing a Career in the Construction Industry

The construction industry is a face–paced and dynamic environment, offering skilled careers such as plumbing , brick and electrical but incorporating aspects such as specialist engineering and planning. For individuals seeking to gain entry into the industry a platform of multi skills can open up great career opportunities.

Our programme allows learners the opportunity to develop a range of basic trade skills that support a range of construction trades. Upon completion of the course, you will achieve an EAL Level 1 Certificate in Performing Construction Operations (600/8229/X).

Duration: This course is delivered in a modular format with the commitment being equivalent to 200 hours of learning. Modules can be selected to suit own personal needs/interests.

Course Fees: The cost of the programme will be based upon personal circumstances and for a number of learners will be free. You will need to contact a member of the team at adultlearning@selby.ac.uk or 01757 211097 to discuss your personal circumstances.

This programme allows learners the opportunity to develop a range of basic trade skills that support a range of construction trades including:

  • Site Health and Safety
  • Plumbing Operations
  • Electrical Operations
  • Plastering Operations
  • Painting and Decorating
  • Flooring
  • Maintenance

Programme delivery will include a combination of structured learning materials and face-to-face delivery with the opportunity to access regular support through the college’s adult learning hub.

Progression may be to the next level of qualification, onto higher-level specialist construction qualifications or with employer support into an apprenticeship.

Target Group for Qualification: This programme is aimed at learners who are seeking a role in the construction industry or looking to develop further practical skills to develop their skill set.
