Selby College Achieves Best Employer Award
Top Performing Selby College achieved another major award in January 2009, when it was announced the organisation was one of the Best Companies in the United Kingdom to work for.
It seems barely a month goes by for the league-topping North Yorkshire college without the organisation being either nominated for or being awarded another major accolade for its continuing top performance.
Any organisation may say they are a great employer, but talk to the people who actually work there and they may tell a different story. “That’s not the case at Selby College,” remarked Principal Allan Stewart. He added, the Best Companies Award is awarded to organisations, via a confidential survey, and asks how good the company is to work for. Key aspects of the survey included the college’s leadership, management performance, personal growth, team working, and how fairly it treated employees. Selby College staff confirmed the organisation was a ‘First Class organisation to work for.
Selby College is the only college in Yorkshire and one of only four in the United Kingdom to have received the award this year and one of only a small number of public sector organisations to achieve it, which demonstrates what a model organisation the college has become. Other well known household companies that achieved a Best Companies Award this year include Beaverbrooks the Jewellers, KPMG, Boots Opticians, American Express Services (Europe), Deloitte and Kellogg’s.
Allan said, “This is a great accolade for the college as it celebrates its 25th Anniversary this year, for Selby and the surrounding area. It demonstrates once again what a fantastic team of staff we have, all working collectively to ensure our students receive the very best education."
Allan and Director of Personnel, Cath Ramsay, were invited to collect the college’s award at a special celebratory lunch at the Cumberland Hotel, Marble Arch, London on 27 January 2009.
