Foundation Degrees
Foundation Degrees are Intermediate Level Higher Education qualifications. They emphasise work-based learning and concentrate on the development of employability skills, personal and professional development. You develop a whole range of valuable skills alongside your subject knowledge, such as Communication, Teamwork, Problem Solving, the Application of Number, the use of Information Technology – essential skills not only for work, but also for future study. The Foundation Degrees offered by Selby College have been developed in partnership with professional bodies and local employers. They take account of the needs of the local and regional labour market and are likely to open up real employment opportunities for you.
Foundation Degrees enable you to gain a nationally recognised Degree qualification in only two years of Full-time study, with Part-time study routes also available.
And if you are successful, and want to continue your studies, you can progress to one of the Universities to do the final year of an Honours Degree programme and graduate with a BA or BSc Honours Degree after only one further year of study. Access Courses
Access Courses are normally studied over one or two years, and are designed to provide the skills and confidence necessary for successful study at Higher Education Level. Many Access Course learners are people who ‘missed out’

Awarding Bodies
All the Higher Education courses in this guide are validated either by The University of Hull, Leeds Metropolitan University, The University of Huddersfield or The Grimsby Institute of Further & Higher Education. This means that your Degree is awarded by the University and you will receive a Degree certificate from that institution.
