Get in Shape!
Selby College’s brand new Aspire health and fitness centre, is equipped with cardiovascular and weight lifting equipment.
The facility is offered at discounted rates to students and staff. Qualified instructors are available for advice on suitable fitness programmes. Inductions are FREE and you can also receive a FREE one-to-one session and fitness test to help you get the most out of your visits.
We now offer a Level 1 YMCA qualification in Gym Instruction.
College Sport
You can represent the college in a variety of sports such as football, basketball, mixed hockey and netball. Fixtures are played on a Wednesday afternoon. Why not enter a team in the college ‘Champions League’ five-a-side football tournament or compete in the badminton tournament? Lunchtime recreational activities run throughout the week and you can play anything you wish! Equipment is available for sports such as badminton, basketball, cricket, volleyball and five-a-side football. The college also offers rugby training sessions.
In January 2011, our new Third Generation Sports pitch will open, offering a floodlit all weather facility for an eleven a side 3 6 a side games of football. The pitch is also available for practice sessions for some other sports. Contact the college for further details.
Golf Academy
September 2007 saw the introduction of our new Golf Academy. The Golf Academy, which is run at Selby Golf Club, is open to male and female full-time students. Two teams made up of 6 learners will be selected in a series of trials. Both teams will receive training from Selby Golf Club Head Professional, Nick Ludwell and his qualified PGA Assistant Adam Ledger.
Golf training will include the use of the driving range, chipping area, putting green and on the golf course itself, where successful participants will be accompanied over 9 holes by the clubs professional. The Golf teams will play in the inter-college BCS league. Please note:- The opportunity for students to join the Selby College Golf Club is subject to them being released from their academic studies.
Football Development Centre
Both male and female students can undertake a highly-structured and demanding additional programme in the development of skills in football. This course is delivered by qualified coaches and aims to develop your skills as a player and coach. Please see page 77 for further information. If you are applying for an ‘A’ Level programme please check with Student Services before applying to the Football Development Centre.
Sports Hall
Sessions can be booked on a casual basis in the energy room and equipment is available for a wide variety of activities.
