A Note to Parents and Guardians

A Note to Parents and Guardians

One of Selby College’s major strengths is the environment provided for all our students.

As one of the top performing colleges in England our aim is to give your son or daughter the very best education. Our commitment to our students is unrivalled.

We also trust our students and expect that they will take responsibility for reaching their chosen goals. We believe this will allow them to develop and adopt the mature approach needed in the critical stages of their lives, be it in another Full-time or Part-time course, employment, undertaking a vocational or Degree Level course at Selby College or another Higher Education Institution.

We know however that the transition from school to adult life can sometimes be difficult. That is where we ask you as parents, to provide the vital home support and encouragement at every stage of your son or daughter’s learning.

Your involvement is critical to them and to the college. We therefore intend to keep you updated on their progress through
regular reports.

We also believe personal contact with parents is important and regular parents’ evenings are scheduled throughout the year where you can talk to Course Tutors about your son or daughter’s progress. In addition, we would not hesitate to contact you if we felt it necessary.
In return we would like to encourage you to talk to us and raise any questions you have – at any stage. We are here to help
and assist.

Our experience of learners is that they are young people who relish and thrive in the grown-up atmosphere of Selby College and have no problem accepting the standards of behaviour and discipline we ask of them.

We aim to ensure that our full time programmes are a quality learning experience. Help us to help your son or daughter achieve their goals. Help us to give your son or daughter the best educational experience.
