Life at Selby College
At Selby College you will be treated as an adult in an adult environment. There are no school bells and no uniforms but you will have a busy working week. We appreciate that coming to college is more than just studying one or more areas of interest. It’s also about making new friends, the place and the social life!
At Selby College we try to combine quality and success with a variety of leisure opportunities and provide facilities to help you enjoy your time with us. Selby is a busy market town, which also has a leisure centre, bowling alley, go-karting facilities, restaurants, bars and cafes; a football, rugby and cricket club and many more attractions.
There are lots of activities, and plenty of things to keep you busy.Music, Street Dance & DramaIf you play an instrument or sing, you dance or you act, then our performance groups may be for you. A number of productions will be planned for the college year including a Christmas pantomime, short reviews, showcases and an end of year extravaganza.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award SchemeThis award is available to students wishing to participate in the Gold Award.
Student UnionAs a student you are entitled to a National Union of Students (NUS) Card giving you discounts in shops, restaurants, cinemas and lots of other places. The Student Union consists of an elected body of active student representatives, who stand up for your rights and represent all students. The Student Union organises many college social events such as RAG Week and the Leavers’ Ball. The Student Union office is located next to the new Common Room – which was itself provided at the request of the Student Union. Make sure your opinion is heard by getting involved when you arrive at Selby College!
TripsWe organise trips to Alton Towers, The Clothes Show, London, paintballing, bowling, the theatre and many more!
ActivitiesActivities include fashion shows, a television production, parties, Rag Week, Comic Relief, Children in Need, etc.
HolidaysVarious student holidays have taken place including trips to Paris, Prague, Krakow, Munich, Majorca, Berlin, Torremolinos, Amsterdam, Skiing in Andorra and trips to Disneyland Paris to name but a few!
Leavers’ BallWhen your time at Selby College comes to an end you’ll be invited to attend the Annual Leavers’ Ball. This is held at a local venue, includes a disco and a buffet. The dress code is formal, as we like to dress to impress!
