Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes designed for current and future employees aged 16 or above.
Apprentices learn on the job, by working skilled people, building up their knowledge, skills and experience all at the same time. The rest they learn from studying at Selby College (usually on a day release basis - depending on the programme).
What's more, there are different levels of Apprenticeships available, but they all lead to National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs), Key Skills qualifications and in most cases, a Technical Certificate such as BTEC or City & Guilds.
An Apprenticeship is designed around NVQ Level 2, Key Skills and a Technical Certificate. Key Skills are essential skills that learners need to support their vocational skills.
