Interested in becoming a Corporation Board Member?

There are 17 serving members currently on our Corporation Board, with no current vacancies. We regularly seek "expressions of interest" from people who live in or around the Selby area who wish to be soniderd for membership. To help you decide whether it's for you, we set out a check list of some the skills and qualities which make an effective Board.

• Commitment to Further Education and lifelong learning
• Ability to think independently and constructively
• Confidence to challenge other members and/or senior managers
• Good communications skills
• Leadership skills
• Ability to solve problems creatively
• Involvement in voluntary or community organisations
• Specialist experience e.g. Public Relations, Finance, Estates
• Understanding of top level management in a large commercial or public
  service organisation

If you feel you have some or all of these, this would give you a head start.

Board Members are viewed as "Non-executive Directors". Although there are no financial rewards, members get the opportunity to make an important contribution to
a thriving college which is there to serve the local and wider community.

The benefits of being a Board Member include working with a team of like-minded people from all walks of life, who collectively offer a broad range of skills, knowledge and experience.

In addition to adding value as an individual, members are provided with the opportunity to learn and expand their own knowledge of Board operations at a strategic level, in areas where they may previously have had only limited experience e.g. Human Resources; Estates; Finance; Health & Safety; Law; Marketing.

There are also regular opportunities to take part in aspects of college life which may
be of interest to individual Board members, for example, acting as a Skills Tournament judge, attending college events such as the Annual Awards Evening and Fashion Show.

If you feel you have the energy, commitment and potential to make a contribution, on a voluntary basis, to the continued success of the college through membership of its Board then please contact the Clerk to express your interest.
